Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

Effective September 29, 2026

The short version: the calculators run in your browser and don't save or send the numbers you enter. NRG Geek only receives your information if you choose to send it, by emailing your results or using the Ask Robert form. We don't sell it, and we don't use tracking or advertising cookies.

Privacy Policy

NRG Geek (nrggeek.com) is an educational website operated by Robert Kelly. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information we collect

Information you send us. If you use the Ask Robert form, we collect your name, email address, county, topic and message, plus your phone number if you provide it. If you use an "Email my results" button, your own email app sends us your calculator inputs and results, along with any name, phone, city or other details you choose to include.
Calculator entries. The numbers you enter in the calculators stay in your browser. They are not stored or sent to us unless you choose to email your results.
Basic technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically records standard server information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and site operation. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

How we use it

We use the information you send to answer your question, discuss your results, and follow up with you by email or phone if you asked us to or included your contact details. We don't add you to a mailing list unless you ask to join one.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help run the website and email (such as Netlify and our email provider), when required by law, or with your permission. If you ask for help finding an installer or contractor, we will ask before passing your information to anyone else.

Cookies, tracking and "Do Not Track"

NRG Geek does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and does not allow third parties to track your activity on this site for advertising. Because we don't track you across websites, there is nothing for a browser "Do Not Track" signal to turn off. If we add visitor statistics in the future, we will use a privacy-friendly service and update this policy.

Reviewing, correcting or deleting your information

To see, correct or delete information you've sent us, or to ask us not to contact you, email rkelly@nrggeek.com. We will respond promptly.

Children

NRG Geek is intended for adults making home energy decisions. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on this page with a new effective date.

Terms of Use

Educational estimates, not professional advice

The calculators, guides and results on NRG Geek are educational planning estimates. They are not a proposal, quote, engineering design, load calculation, safety inspection, tax or financial advice, or a guarantee of savings or performance. Actual results depend on your home, equipment, installation, weather, usage, utility rates and rules, and other factors. Verify important information with qualified professionals and your utility before making financial or construction decisions.

Accuracy

We work to keep assumptions and rates current, but utility rates, incentives, codes, equipment specifications and laws change. Information may be out of date or contain errors, and is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NRG Geek and Robert Kelly are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website or reliance on its content or results.
